Theoretical Foundation of Blockchain Consensus Protocols

Despite a large variety of blockchain consensus protocols proposed in the past several years, a number of fundamental questions on the throughput, scalability, security and privacy protections have not yet been understood from a theoretical perspective.

To address this challenge, the project will develop a unified theoretical framework that allows us to compare and study the benefits and drawbacks of various blockchain protocols in a systematic way. This will not only lead to an in-depth understanding of blockchain protocols, but will also open up opportunities to create new protocols with solid foundation.
