The Role of Blockchain in CBDC

Bank of Canada has undertaken various experiments with blockchain to understand the value proposition of this technology in financial markets, especially in wholesale CBDC. This work also helps inform the design of a retail CBDC. While we have not come to a conclusion on the architecture of a CBDC, and the role of blockchain in it, this talk will discuss our thinking to date around the subject.
