Description
Presented in a symposium sponsored by the Technology & Innovation Management division of the Academy of Management entitled, "Coordination, Governance, and Trust: The Impact of Blockchain on Organizations" in Chicago in August 2018.
This symposium explores the impact of blockchain technology on organizations. It comes at a time of intense interest in the practical applications of blockchain (a form of distributed ledger technologies). We examine a variety of tenets, including coordination and governance mechanisms, as well as multiple functions of trust. The focus of the symposium is on the possible implications blockchain technology will have on organizational theory, while recognizing potential boundary conditions. Together the five papers and the panel discussion with all co-authors are designed to generate a dialogue among a variety of scholars with a common phenomenological interest.
